About Birmingham
Attractions in Birmingham
Circo
An alternative to the pub scene, this modern bar is a student hang-out midweek and a pre-club scene at the weekend, boasting some excellent guest DJs and stomach-lining tapas if required.
Chez Jules
This is a find - it may be French, but it's refreshingly unpretentious. The decor is a bit faux-rustic, with long communal tables, but it serves up decent bistro standards like steamed mussels. Good prices on house wine seal the deal.
Cadbury World
Chocoholics from miles around flock to Cadbury World, which provides a lip-smacking exploration into the history, production and consumption of the ever popular cocoa-based confectionery, seen through the eyes of one of the world's largest chocolate-makers.
Brindleyplace
Al Frash
If you only get to try one balti joint, make it this one. Al Frash consistently wins awards for its baltis and scores points for having more tasteful decor than the average bj; it's a boon for veggos too.
Zinc
Though it's probably obvious from the name, this is a Conran bar-diner; there's an enticing menu, and the cool, relaxed space lends itself to chilling to the jazz and funk soundtrack.
Sputnik
If hygiene isn't your first priority, this is the place: it has that grungy feel licked, with a basement bar displaying B-movie posters and surprisingly varied tunes (reggae, drum'n'bass, funk and house), plus good beers and a friendly vibe.
